Greetings from Denver!
I’ve never blogged from Denver so I figured I would. It’s a first time for every thing.
It’s a good time. We’ve done some tours. Saw some sights. Took some pictures. I’ll get more in back in MN.

So I missed the Season Finale of 24 because of work. I’ve been busy doing a lot of other things since then. Today I was going to watch it online. Turns out Fox has already taken the full show off. I’m rather upset with Fox.
That is all.
Beth and I were watching The Today Show this morning. They had a feature on Seniors playing the Wii. We knew Beth’s grandma (Grammy as we call her) played at her retirement home. Low and behold the story was shot there. Next thing we know we’re seeing Grammy on TV! It was pretty sweet.
In fact she’s the one on the far right in the screen shot.

Back in January I posted about the court debate over Prop 8. As you all probably know by now, the court upheld Prop 8. I still firmly believe that was the right thing to do. The people of CA voted for Prop 8 and the courts should not invalidate their wishes. That is the way our government is set up.
Had the court ruled the other way it would have been a blow to our form of government. The issue in this case was not about gay marriage, but about the rule of law. The people voted to define marriage in their constitution, and the court says that’s okay. It’s a victory for our system of government.
Comments welcome.
The people demand that I blog, and so here is your update! I attempted to post one a while back from my phone, but I think it got lost in the nether regions of the phone and the intertubes. Not sure where it is, but I think it’s gone.
Work is a lot slower these days. Or perhaps quieter is a better word. There is still a fair amount to do, but with the Members gone (for the most part) it’s not as hectic as it was. There are a few things to wrap up, and that demands a fair amount of attention. But I typically don’t have 7 different things going on, so it’s easy to focus on one project at a time.
We’re doing more stuff around the house. The pool is up and running for the summer. I may just jump in later today. We’ll see. We’ve painted the guest room. That’s the one room we hadn’t touched since we moved in (minus everything down stairs). So that’s not a lovely shade of green. I’ve got to put some new blinds in there today.
We’re also working on getting the downstairs bathroom into shape. With the summer coming up and more people going to be here for pool parties, etc. we figured a second functioning bathroom would be great. Well, it has always functioned, but by cleaning it up it will be more inviting to use. That’s a better way to phrase it. So that’s been keeping us busy too.
With summer almost here, or is it here already, I’m looking forward to spending time pool side and relaxing as much as possible. Our house is a nice getaway with the pool in the back. The porch is lovely and I think I’d take this place over having a cabin up north any day of the week.
That’s enough for now. There’s more stuff I’ll be posting about life in general. So be on the look out!
Deadlines in the House are Coming up. That means there are very long debates on the omnibus bills. While it is kind of interesting.
So while the hours are long, it is kind of fun. We are cranking a lot of things out which is great. Being productive is a wonderful thing.
I am slightly disappointed the weather is really nice while I’m stuck inside. Too bad it will rain all weekend.
Our dishwasher has been broken since January. Which, just as luck would have it, was 1 month after the warranty had expired. So today I went and got a new motor for it. I pulled the dishwasher out and got the new motor and everything in. It really wasn’t too hard. I was surprised at how smooth it went. Perhaps my handyman skills are improving.
Sadly that didn’t fix the problem. So there’s one other thing that it could possibly be. I’m looking into how much it will cost to fix that. I’m not sure, but we’ll see.
And on a completely unrelated note I washed part of the kitchen floor today too!
I’m a big fan of mini-brownie muffins. They are delightful. Well I was hungry for cookies and decided to make mini-muffin cookies.
I am happy to report they are quite delicious.
Since we moved into our house I’ve never been really liked the exhaust fan in our bathroom. It was old, I’m guessing original to the house (ie 30 years old), and loud.
Last week it decided to not work so well. Even worse than normal. So I decided now’s the time to replace it! So today we went to Lowe’s and got a new one. I was worried about how much work it may be. I read some things online and it looked kind of tough.
But thankfully enough, and due to some measuring before hand, the one we bought was a perfect fit in the old spot. So after crawling around the attic, finding the stuff, and ripping it out, putting the new one in, I was done! It wasn’t so bad actually, and only took about an hour and a half or so. It fit right into the exhaust pipe out of the ceiling, and all is well.
After trying it out it works much better than the other one ever did, and it is pretty quiet. Not the most quiet, but the super quiet ones were way more expensive and would have required a lot more work.
So that’s just a snap shot of our weekend. Now it’s time to get ready for bed. More sleep is in order.
For those of you who don’t follow me on Twitter, you know who you are, you may not know this. Recently I was appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission in Blaine. I was appointed by the Mayor with confirmation by the City Council.
It’s a pretty exciting thing. It’s a volunteer position, which is fine. One night a month, with some hours reviewing the agenda and getting ready for the meeting. It’s a great step on my career path and moves me along toward my future goals.
If you want to learn a little bit about the Blaine Planning and Zoning Comission you can check out their website. They have vido archives of the meeting and you can even stream it live. So check out this site and you can watch me being sworn into office at 7.
It’s the start of a new quarter, actually the end of the first week of the new quarter, for me and I thought I’d save some money by not buying the books but just getting them from the library. Smart move. Except one of the books from the library was the third edition and the required one was the eighth. Turns out there’s a fair amount wrong.
So I look on half.com and see the book is really spending, but I can buy the e-book version from the campus book store for cheaper than half.com. A pretty good deal right? Almost.
Turns out when I paid $110 for the e-book I didn’t actually buy the book. I buy the rights to read it for 180 days. That’s right, after that I have the book no more. That really sucks. It’s a fair amount of money for not owning something.
Besides the crazy price and not owning it, I think it’s a great feature. I can read the book from any computer, highlight text, search terms, and make notes. It’s very useful and it’ll be a lot easier to go back and find my notes and do the necessary work from the readings.
Granted, not all ebooks are merely “rentals” but the way this one is set up it is merely renting. I guess this book is a wash. Hopefully the benefits continue to outweigh the negatives.
So I’ve had a lot of good thoughts on blog postings. But they all come to me before I fall asleep and leave me before I wake up.
Perhaps I’ll remember some of them and put them up for your reading pleasure.
With the Legislature back in Session things are busy again at the Capitol. For the most part that’s good. The hours are a little long again, but that’s alright. I really like working with the Freshmen and helping get them acclimated to life at the Capitol. It’s also really fun to work with my Representative, Tim Sanders. Having worked with him on the campaign trail, it’s made things pretty easy to work with him there.
Life on the home front is good. Owning a home is interesting… Our dishwasher broke and we’re waiting on fixing that. We bought it new, and of course it stopped working about a month after the warranty went out. With in the next month or two I’ll do my best to fix that. The garage door sensor isn’t working quite right either. We ordered parts to get that fixed, but they’re on back order. So once those get here I’ll get that working properly again.
For the past month we’ve been going to the gym on a regular basis. One of Beth’s coworkers gave us a couple of free trial passes and we used them, and liked working out. So we joined up. Back in December we went to check out Gold’s Gym, but that was not the place for us. The people were a little too pushy and trying to sell us stuff we didn’t need. We joined the AnyTime Fitness and it’s a good place. It’s a smaller gym, but it’s just a bunch of people getting fit. No real body builders or anything. Plus it’s not too busy most times. So it’s easy to get in a quick workout and get back on with your day.
So life is good. It feels like spring a little bit this weekend, and that puts a smile on my face. Too bad I have to do homework today.
