Flash Ad’s
One thing that I really don’t like when I’m surfing the internet are flash ad’s. It is very annoying to have those ad’s block the text of a news article you are trying to read. Yahoo! does it, the Pioneer Press does it, and many others. It’s just simply annoying.
I guess it’s all in the name of “profit”, but what about giving the readers a break. Keep the ad’s on the side, but don’t have them float around the screen, and make you wait 30 seconds before you can actually begin to read the article.
Is there any way to block these, or do you think there is any hope to get these blocked using a “pop-up” type blocker?

There’s an extension called Flashblock that works great. Any flash object in a page is replaced with a button, and to load it just click that. I don’t even necessarily use it for blocking the ads, but to prevent them from using a ridiculous amount of the CPU if I open a couple dozen tabs from a site at once.

If you are using Safari, you can disable all plugins from the preferences. Cmd – , to open prefs, go to Security, and it should be there.
I find that turning plug-ins off works well while simple browsing. Obviously, you would have to turn them back on to see things you want to.

I have that problem mostly at work and it’s a windows machine, so Safari’s not really an option. Thanks for the heads up though!

Here’s the solution to all of your ad problems… period. I kid you not — I haven’t seen a single ad of any kind for about a year, and the solution does not block content that is not ads.
In firefox get these two extensions: 1) adblock and 2) Adblock filterset.g updater — That’s it; no more ads of any kind anywhere on the internet.
