More storms

As I’m writing this I hear the sirens off in the distance.  We’re watching Fox 9 and looking out the window at the big rain drops.  The rain is tapering off.  To the north the clouds are dark.  But we are not getting much of anything right here.

Last weekend we were not affected by the storms either.  I didn’t know anything about them until we got home Monday night and turned on the TV.  So our house is doing alright, no big storms or anything. I hope everyone else is safe!

Before the storms we were outside since about 10:30 this morning (well I’ve been outside longer because I had breakfast and coffee on the porch!).  We’ve been doing yard work  and a lot more stuff.  It will be a summer long project for some of it.  I’m hoping to get the back yard all fixed up before the pool is ready, so that’s what my plan for tomorrow is.

We love being homeowners, but it can be a lot of work!

A little more like a back yard

Thanks to Pat the other night we got the fence repaired in the back yard! It looks pretty good, and it’s nice to have it back up. The back yard is starting to look nice again!

This weekend, if it doesn’t rain all weekend, I’m going to clean up the leaves and scattered mess that is the rest of the back yard. Make it all nice and neat. Then on Thursday the pool is getting fixed! So it should be about a week until the pool is all filled with water, and running! We’re pretty excited about that.

The long weekend was nice. The wedding was great. Congrats again to the Ahlquists! The rest of the weekend was in LP splitting time between the families. All of my siblings were there, which was great. We had some campfires, and just hanging out. We brought our Wii home and I was surprised at how much the whole family got into playing the Wii. Even my parents played for a while and enjoyed it. I was pretty surprised.

So it’s been a good week. We’re on quarter break from classes, which I have enjoyed. Next week they start again. It should be alright, but more work than the last one. That’s alright, I’ve got a little more free time.

Enjoy another great weekend!

A long weekend!

After the latest marathon weekend of work and little sleep, I’m ready for a long weekend!  It’s very relaxing.  And as I sit and type this I’m at Caribou Coffee in Alexandria enjoying some free Wi-Fi and a hot cup of the Dark Roast of the day.  Life is good.

We’re in Alex today for Kari Blair’s wedding!  That’s kind of exciting.  Beth is a personal attendant so she’s helping get stuff ready, and more or less being a gopher.  I’m an usher, which means I don’t have to be to the church until 3:30.  I’ll likely go earlier to help if needed, but for now I’m just relaxing.

We’ll be spending the rest of the weekend in the LP with my parents.  It’s been a long standing tradition for my whole family to come back to the LP for Memorial Day Weekend.  We hang out and have a good time.  Monday there is the parade in town and the ceremony at the cemetary afterwards which we go to.  Then around 12noon the Hibbs come over for some grilling out.  It’s a fun weekend.  I think tomorrow morning my dad, brother, and I will be going out fishing.  That will be fun.

So it should be a good weekend.  And if we remember we’ll take some pictures.  Beth commented the other day that we have 0 pictures from 2008.  That’s kind of sad.

Work is slowing down a little bit.  The columns are coming to an end, because they are all candidates now.  And 60 days from this past Sunday (July 20th, I think) we can’t do much at all for them.  So it will be some fun and interesting projects that are kind of out of the norm from the daily tasks.  I’m looking forward to it.

The end of session was intersting.  There were numerous retirement speeches given (8, I think).  The great people who represent our state and are moving back to the private life.  Many of them had a common theme of wanting to spend more time with their families.  It made me wonder how life would be different if I had one.  The constant leaving home and going to St. Paul.  It would have been a great honor and privelege, but it is nice to have a family life as well.  It caused me to ponder about being an elected official.

I’ve been catching up on some TV shows lately.  I’ve gotten into How I Met Your Mother recently.  People at work watch it, and so I’ve began watching it.  That’s a fairly funny show.  Last fall Beth and I began watching Big Bang Theory.  When the strike hit we tapered off from watching it.  Now I’ve watched the last four episodes.  That show is hilarious!  I really like it a lot.  That might be my new show.  If you haven’t seen it you should.  There are about 4 episodes you can watch online for free.

That’s my life in a quick recap.  The pool should be up and running in about a week and a half I think.  The yard is turning green and we’re getting rid of some of the weeds.  The outside is starting to look nice, and the fence will be fixed next week as well!  Life on the home front is well.  Hope it is the same for everyone else!

Hey There

Life has been crazy!  Work is at a dead sprint right now.  From what I hear in the blogs we’re supposed to finish up today.  Well I’m watching Kare 11 and they just said “lawmakers hope to wrap up by sunrise on Sunday”.  So I guess I’ll get home tomorrow just on time for church!  That sounds like fun.

So that’s the main part of my life.  Two weeks ago I was able to catch a Twins game with some co-workers which was fun.  They beat the White Sox.  They were at the top in the Central, not sure where they are now.  But I’m hoping to take in a few more games this summer.  (That’s for you Anders!)
There’s been some political topics on my mind lately, but I can’t think of them at the moment.  I think my mind is still sleeping from teh late night last night.  Perhaps more on the flip side when work slows down.
